France

One of the most popular and well loved holiday areas in France is the southern region known as the French Riviera, or Côte d'Azur. This beautiful stretch of France runs along the south eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea from Toulon right up to the Italian border at Menton. The Côte d'Azur is one of the most famous resort areas in the world and includes such familiar names as St Tropez, Cannes, Nice, Antibes, and Monaco. French Riviera holiday homes are easy to find here and are a real investment for the future as well as a real improvement to your lifestyle right now.

The Alps act as a huge barrier against the inland winds giving this area a near tropical climate, which, along with the azure seas, bright blue skies, white villas and jasmine scented air makes the Côte d'Azur a much sought after place.

Living in the Côte d'Azur became popular in the late 19th century when it was a fashionable resort, particularly with the British. Initially it was a winter resort, valued for its mild winter climate in comparison with that of northern Europe but much later it became more popular as a summer resort.

St Tropez

The medieval facade of this town is deceptive and at first it would be easy not to notice the lines of luxury yachts in the harbour and sports cars cruising around the narrow streets. The waterfront cafes are full of the rich and famous and ‘people watching’ is one of the favourite occupations of visitors to this old fishing port. The night life is exuberant here and as well as all the clubs and bars there are many private parties in the luxurious villas around the bay and helicopters can be seen bringing elegant guests to them.

Cannes

Cannes is noted for its miles and miles of gorgeous sandy beaches and of course for the International Film Festival. The actual town of Cannes is centred around the old port and is quite compact. To the west of the port is the Tour de Mt Chevalier which is the old town and is full of narrow streets climbing up and around the hill, with a fine view from the top. Standing on the ancient rampart wall in front of the church, you can see right across the port, the bay and the eastern part of the city.
Antibes

Antibes has one of the largest yacht marinas on the Côte d'Azur which was built in the 1960s on the site of the old Roman harbour. With other harbours, secluded anchorages and pretty creeks Antibes is a paradise for sailors.

The soft sandy beaches all around Antibes are man made and beautifully maintained throughout the year. We don't need to add that you can find every kind of water sports imaginable in Antibes.

The old town of Antibes was protected by ramparts which resulted in the excellent conservation of historic monuments from different periods. The Chateau, bastion and towers have today been transformed into a magnificent Modern Art Museum, a History and Archaeological Museum and a museum of traditional crafts and local culture. The historic town centre has a wonderful atmosphere and it is a delight to wander through the narrow streets and pretty squares. As well as shopping in the many boutiques and sampling delicious food at restaurants it is possible to observe many local craftsmen at work in their open fronted workshops.

Nice

Although Nice is the capital of the French Riviera, the largest city between Genoa and Marseille and the most ancient, it is the also the least expensive of all the resorts. Nice enjoys mild and sunny weather throughout the seasons and on average has 300 days of sunshine a year. There are many homes for sale in this gentile area and for those thinking of living in the Côte d'Azur this is an ideal location.

Principality of Monaco

The Principality of Monaco is the world's most densely populated country and, at just 1.95 square kilometers, is the second smallest independent nation after Vatican City. The official language is French, although Italian and English are both widely spoken making life easier for those of you interested in living in Monte Carlo.
With a narrow strip of coast and vertical cliffs rising straight out of the sea, the Principality of Monaco benefits from an ideal geographical location and a perfect Mediterranean climate. It has sunny, but not exceedingly hot summers, and mild winters yet is only an hour’s drive away from the ski resorts in the Alps. It is a pleasant place to live all year round with an average of seven hours sunshine a day.

The wealthiest and possibly most famous area of Monaco is Monte Carlo which is often believed to be the capital of the country, although strictly speaking, there isn’t one. Monte Carlo is known world wide for its casinos, glamour, famous visitors and of course the Circuit de Monaco, where the Formula One ‘Monaco Grand Prix’ takes place.

Monte Carlo is one of Europe's leading tourist resorts. The citizens of Monaco are exempt from taxes, although they are forbidden to enter the gaming rooms!
